FIJI has made strides in moving towards adopting renewable energy platforms such as solar home systems, biomass energy generation and hydro power.

Economy Ministry director of climate change Nilesh Prakash made these comments while speaking at a press conference for the Regional Pacific National Determined Contributions (NDCs) Dialogue held in Suva yesterday.

Mr Prakash said the NDCs were countries' commitments under the Paris Agreement.

"These are our commitments for the implementation of the Paris Agreement's most ambitious goal of limiting global average temperature rise to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.

"Realising this ambitious target will require global emissions of greenhouse gases to reach net zero in just a few decades.

"This calls for action from both the developed and developing countries."

He added these discussions would give form and structure to the regional facility and they hoped this would lead to greater funding commitment by countries and their development partners for the sustenance of the regional facility.

"We need to be creative about how we deal with climate change and indeed, we've heard good examples of building resilience and addressing climate change during the week," he said.
