Description

The ACP-EU Natural Disaster Risk Reduction (NDRR) Program was launched in 2011 as an initiative of the ACP Group of States, funded by a EUR 54.5 million European Union (EU) grant and managed by the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), to support Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) activities in ACP countries.

This contribution responds to the need to make the world safer from natural hazards, as outlined in the Hyogo Framework for Action (2005-2015), adopted by 168 countries and multilateral organizations following the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.

Activities of the Program focus on the following four priority areas, which represent the most critical aspects of a comprehensive programmatic approach to reducing risk, improving resilience at all levels and contributing to larger regional and national sustainable development agendas for ACP countries:

The Program is managed by GFDRR, which has taken a pro-active multilateral leadership role in all four priority areas, developing necessary partnerships with regional bodies and country governments to strengthen critical capacities for implementing risk reduction programs while demonstrating measurable results towards mainstreaming disaster risk management. GFDRR'€™s objective remains making disaster risk reduction a national development priority clearly articulated in comprehensive DRR country program framework.

Pacific component is managed by the World Bank Global Facility for Disaster Risk Reduction (GFDRR).
