The latest Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change report says an "unprecedented" effort will be needed to limit climate change to just 1.5 degrees, including a dramatic reduction in the use of coal.

A rise of two degrees, says the report, would wipe out the Great Barrier Reef and destroy some of Australia's Pacific Island neighbours.

But the Federal Government says it's on target to meet its Paris commitments and is focussed on lowering energy prices.
