THE World Bank has recommended Pacific Island countries (PICs) stick to low cost options when providing solutions for climate change adaptation for the agriculture sector.
In a new report that highlighted the impact of climate change on agriculture yield over the next 50 years, the World Bank revealed increased temperatures and higher risk or seasonal droughts were likely to decrease crop productivity and negatively affect livestock for PICs.
World Bank Pacific Department senior environment specialist Denis Jordy said agriculture was very important to regional countries but was also very vulnerable to natural disasters.
