Pacific iCLIM conducts training workshops in Fiji and Vanuatu

Climate change data and information management was the topic of discussion in Suva at the Pacific iCLIM workshops conducted by SPREP and Griffith University in June. The training will enable Fiji Climate Change Division to upgrade their national portal using the Pacific iCLIM “Starter Pack”.

In addition to this, national and regional users will have the skill to contribute to the Pacific Climate Change Portal (www.pacificclimatechange.net) content and organisations to implement organisational information management, using the information management lifecycle and considering issues such as copyright.

The trainings contribute to three of Pacific iCLIM’s objectives, which are the strengthening of the national and regional portals, implementing regional information management protocols and conducting information management trainings.

The training covered three areas: a Drupal training workshop for IT staff, stakeholder training in using and contributing to the newly upgraded Pacific Climate Change Portal, and Information and Knowledge Management for climate change training.

The three day workshop from 7 – 9 June was attended by over 30 representatives from the Fiji Climate Change Division, Department of Environment, Fiji Information Technology and Computing Services, Fiji Archives and various regional organisations and development partners.

A similar training workshop was conducted in Vanuatu the following week on the 14th of June. The workshop was attended by 15 staff from the Vanuatu National Advisory Board, the Vanuatu Meteorological and Geohazards Division other government departments and development partners.

The activity was coordinated by the SPREP, Griffith University, Fiji Climate Change Division and Vanuatu Metrological Geohazards Division. The Pacific iCLIM project is funded by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
